Going Rogue
A year ago I wanted to do something new with my life and meet new people. So, I took an improv class. The class moved from spring to summer and it was definitely one of my favorite moments in my life thus far. The people I met in the class were varied and wonderful, we formed a bond that is more than difficult to put into words. I was very successful in class and in our student show, which if you knew my past as an actress - that feeling was quite exhilarating.
I was honored to be asked to join the ensemble months later. I was hesitant because from the outside I could sense the group was often infested with drama and occasionally mirrored my 13 year old students. But still, I went forward with my new found passion and hoped that it would bring happiness and new people to my life.
There were a lot of good times, fantastic scenes, and moments of growth as an improv actress. But there were also moments of heartache, isolation, coldness, and scenes that failed like Charlie Sheen's Torpedo of Truth tour. Unfortunately nasty mean girls and crazy actors run rampant - and this troupe was no exception.
So, I sent my "I'm out" email and I'm crossing my fingers real hard that my future holds something as wonderful as I once thought being in the ensemble was going to be. I'm good at this, and that doesn't come out of my mouth easily. I have to find a place to lay dez skills down!!!
